Getting it running
Pick the box, then the player
On a Sony, TCL, Hisense or Philips set the work is already done. On a separate box, an Nvidia Shield or a Chromecast with Google TV is worth it; a $30 no-name box is not. Then decide on TiViMate for a proper guide, or Smarters to keep it simple.
Open the Google Play Store
It is on the home screen, or under Apps on Google TV. Confirm you are signed in to a Google account first — the store lets you browse without one and then trips at install.
Install the player
Search TiViMate IPTV Player or IPTV Smarters Pro. On a television rather than a tablet, take TiViMate: the guide is the reason it exists and it is well ahead of the alternatives for live sport.
Hand it your Xtream login
TiViMate asks you to Add playlist, then offers Xtream Codes login; Smarters phrases it Login with Xtream Codes API. Either way you give it the same server address, username and password, and it pulls the list and the guide.
Tidy the list, then test it
Turn off the categories you will never open, pin the ones you will, and set the language, all under Settings, Playlists in TiViMate. Then load a live channel and leave it running a minute to confirm the picture and the guide before you walk away.
If the picture will not come good
The Play Store will not show the player
Some cheap boxes run the phone build of Android and hide TV-only listings. Sideload the APK through Downloader instead, following the same sequence as the Firestick guide.
The guide comes up empty
Let the first download finish before judging it, then trigger Update EPG in the app settings. The guide source travels with your login, though support can send a standalone URL for the odd player that insists on one.

The Nvidia Shield is quickest and takes 4K HDR without a blink, though it costs more than a year of the subscription. A Chromecast with Google TV 4K is the sensible budget pick. For a generic box, insist on 2 GB of RAM and an Ethernet port, and treat the spec sheet with suspicion.
Does it run on Chromecast with Google TV?
Yes. It is Android TV underneath, so TiViMate and IPTV Smarters Pro both install from the Play Store and take your credentials exactly as above. It is one of the tidier setups going.
